FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New documentary shines a light on Portland’s forgotten world champion motorcycle racer.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ray Tauscher: America’s Forgotten World Champion Motorcycle Racer, a 17-minute documentary on Portland’s Raymond F Tauscher that made its debut on December 4, 2020 at the South Jersey Moto Film Festival that was held online due to COVID-19 (https://revsisters.com/events/sjmff2020/).
The film and additional information may be found at www.raytauscher.com.
Produced by award-winning Portland filmmaker Ned Thanhouser and his son Michael, a former multimedia journalist for KEZI 9 News in Eugene, the film recounts the career of Portland’s “Yankee” rider and his rise to international fame as one of the world’s top motorcycle riders.
Tauscher (Tauser in international press) grew up to become an American phenomenon in 1931 winning world championship motorcycle titles in Australia, England, France, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy. Inspired by watching racing at the Gresham Speed Bowl, he began his competitive racing career in 1923 where he won regional oval track and hill climb championships.
His American titleholder status took him around the globe five times, where he surpassed expectations after being written off as an underdog. Tauscher attracted huge crowds, was revered by fans, respected by sportswriters, became a local motorcycle race promoter at the Jantzen Beach Arena, and was regarded as a well-rounded sportsman.
The film uses recently discovered race footage, Ray’s personal scrapbooks, photo albums, and memorabilia to tell his life story in a first-person perspective. It also includes interviewers with surviving family members and new music recordings of 1930’s compositions performed by actress and singer Renee Bordelon (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5053718/).
